How to Get Your Texas Crash Report — Including Free

Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Reports, also called form CR-3, are managed by the Texas Department of Transportation through the Crash Records Information System (CRIS). Reports are generally available about 5–10 business days after the crash.

  1. Open the official CRIS portal

Go to the official CRIS report purchase portal, available online 24/7.

  2. Search for the crash

Use the crash ID, driver’s license number, vehicle identification number (VIN), or license plate to locate the report.

  3. Purchase and save your copy

Follow the portal instructions to purchase the report. Save a digital copy and keep an unedited version for your records.

  4. Free — $0

Or ask us to search — we charge nothing

CRIS charges for a copy. We charge $0. Provide the crash details in the request below and Dennis Injury Law searches the available official sources for you. If we obtain the report you are eligible to receive, we send it at no charge. If we cannot obtain it, there is still no charge. No credit card is ever requested. Availability is not guaranteed.

If CRIS does not show your report, contact the investigating agency directly. Some city police departments, including certain reports handled by Houston Police Department, may require a request through that department’s records division.

For portal help, call the CRIS help desk at 844-CRIS-HLP (844-274-7457) or email support@crishlp.com.
